Board of Selectmen Meeting, March 4, 2024
Planning Board Vacancies
Ian MacKinnon has resigned from the Planning Board. The level of vacancies upcoming on the board is putting the board at risk of making meeting a quorum difficult. There are two three-year positions on the ballot that no one is running for. Unless there are last-minute write-in candidates for these positions, the board will have to fill these two positions plus this additional position with volunteers.
If you have any interest in being on the Planning Board, now is the time to act.
Town Report
The Town Report is now available online. Printed copies of the report may be obtained at Town Hall.
Seasonal Road Posting
Over the past several days the Highway Department has had to make urgent deliveries of gravel to sections of some dirt roads that were becoming impassible due to the thawing. Despite this, the Highway Director advised the Town Administrator that seasonal road posting was not yet needed. The board thought otherwise and unanimously (Selectman Welsh was absent) voted to post the roads.
Library Septic System
The septic system at the library has failed. The tank now requires weekly pumping. A design for a new septic system has been approved. The Highway Department will likely install it.
Community Center Roof Damage
Last week’s windstorm ripped off many shingles from the Community Center’s gym, causing bad roof leakage. This will likely be repaired on March 5 at a cost of $800.
Rt 152 Bridge Closure Public Meeting
There will be a public meeting at the school on Thursday, March 21 at 6:00 pm about the state’s planned closure of the bridge over North River on Rt 152, which will close the road for about one month during the summer of 2025.
Board of Selectmen Code of Ethics Complaint Procedure
Board of Selectmen candidate Jaye Vilchock asked if there’s a written procedure for handling complaints about selectmen who have violated the code of ethics. The Town Administrator said there’s no documented procedure but that complaints could be sent in writing to her.
