Board of Selectmen Statement Regarding the Investigation of the Fire Chief and Lieutenant
The Board of Selectmen convened a special non-public meeting this morning, Wednesday, June 21. At this meeting the board released a prepared statement via video regarding the investigation of the Fire Chief and Lieutenant.
The major new piece of information was that the investigation was precipitated by six members of the Fire Department who met with the board during the board’s March 20 non-public session. These six individuals made allegations about conduct and issues going on in the department.
The statement gave a timeline of what happened after this.
March 23 - Chief and Lieutenant put on paid administrative leave.
March 31 - Investigation initiated.
April 3 to May 1 - Thirteen interviews conducted.
May 22 - Chief interviewed.
May 25 - Lieutenant interviewed.
May 26 - The thirteen people were re-interviewed.
Board met with the town attorney to discuss the investigators’ findings, and so that redacted versions of the report could be provided later.
June 19 - Board received the final report and discussed it in non-public session.
June 21 - Board met in non-public session to come to a conclusion.
At this time the board has not announced its conclusion.
