Budget Committee Meeting November 3, 2022
Surrounding towns are poaching our employees because Nottingham’s wages are uncompetitive.
Selectman John Morin reported severe problems in retaining employees. Neighboring towns are luring our employees away with higher pay, as the town of Nottingham is at the bottom of municipal pay scales in the region.
Examples:
The town’s former Town Administrator resigned because another town offered him a much higher salary than Nottingham was willing to pay.
The town’s head librarian is the lowest paid among the surrounding 12 towns. Upon hearing this, Budget Committee member Tom Butkiewicz exclaimed, “Great!”
The Fire Department has budgeted an average of $22/hr for new hires. All of the surrounding towns pay better than that.
Interviewing for a new Town administrator will begin after the 16th. John Morin hopes the position will be filled before the end of the year.
