Sure. Just keeping it very recent, here's a quote from American Friends' Service (Quakers) about a vote this week:
“Today, the so-called ‘Live Free or Die’ state chose to exclude transgender girls from participating on girls sports teams, cruelly taking away opportunities to learn teamwork, improve mental health, and belong with other girls,” said Linds Jakows, founder of 603 Equality. We grieve the unrelenting assault on the humanity of transgender people, not only here in NH but throughout the country. We recognize that all people are bearers of divine Light; our laws should affirm their dignity not dehumanize them.
House members also passed HB 1115, which weakens tenant protections and, according to NH Legal Assistance, “upends 40 years of state law requiring ‘good cause’ to evict…. HB 1115 would create a constant threat that tenants can become homeless, displaced from communities where they have connections and support.”
They refuse to enshrine in the state constitution the right for women to choose whether and when to bear children. Some extremists at the state level proposed a 15 day abortion ban, which thankfully died.
Here's a link to an article about their attempts to secede from the union two years ago, supported by at least one of Nottingham's state reps at the time, Al Bershstein.
Agree that neither party is perfect. Certainly we've nearly completely lost our way in terms of compromise between the two major parties. I'll still take my chances with Democrats over Libertarians but right now my biggest concern is the rise of Christian Nationalism. I'd love to see the Libertarians, who are supposedly freedom lovers, make a lot more noise about that, but in this state anyway they seem to align with extremist Republicans (sadly, the majority of Republicans now) to pass anti-freedom bills for a lot of people who don't toe the CN line. In NH, yes, they are a true threat to the 2 party system because they've contributed to a majority of these extremists and passed a lot bills in the statehouse that infringe on many citizens' rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Pretty ironic for a group that claims to "freedom-loving".
Can you please share specific examples of extremists in NH who’ve passed bills that infringe on many citizens rights to life, liberty , and pursuit of happiness? I want to believe what you’re saying but this is news to me. Thank you.
Oh ok. Thank you for explaining. I take it you’re not a fan of Libertarians? Are they even a true threat to the 2 party system we’re dominated by? I’m far from a political scientist, but how many broken promises and flat out lies etc must we the people endure from our sacred Republican and Democratic parties before real changes are made? Both parties continue to fail us horribly.
The BOS proposed a budget and assumed it would be approved by the voters. They have spent at a rate in excess of what they proposed, expecting that the voters would approve what they proposed.
The voters did not approve the proposed budget thereby approving an amount (the default budget) that was $290,000 less than the rate of expenditures already approved by the board between January and early March.
This is very discouraging. And is it necessary? Is it true that too many residents CAN'T pay their property taxes, or is it closer to the truth to say we don't want to pay as much tax as is required to properly fund our town? How many of us have second homes payments, truck/camper/RV payments, boat payments, snowmobile payments, tractor payments and also want to take trips/vacations? When I look around at our area, I see a lot of these expensive toys in yards, I see local restaurants overflowing with patrons, big expensive new houses being built and sold for 600-800K, posts about expensive family vacations. While we certainly have residents of very limited means, there seem to be plenty of us doing just fine finding places to put our disposable income. I include myself in this group and am grateful to be able to do nice things. As a wise friend and long time resident of Nottingham told me his father used to tell him, "Why are you acting like a poor man when you're really a rich man?" This could be said of many of us when it comes to paying up to support our town.
Thank you!

You seem to be a hardcore leftist.
I disagree with many of your extremist views.

A member of the Free State Project, which endeavors to move thousands of Libertarians to NH to make the state a stronghold of their ideas.

If I understand this correctly:
The BOS proposed a budget and assumed it would be approved by the voters. They have spent at a rate in excess of what they proposed, expecting that the voters would approve what they proposed.
The voters did not approve the proposed budget thereby approving an amount (the default budget) that was $290,000 less than the rate of expenditures already approved by the board between January and early March.
And the way out of this nexus is ?????????????

As far as I’m aware there isn’t anything stopping you from donating your extra cash to the town for them to use as they see fit. I say go for it!
It may come to that to keep open the foundations of democracy such as the public library and schools. Just as the Free Staters intended.
What’s a ‘free stater’? Is that a derogatory term for something?
