SCBA fire fighting packs are positive flow, so if the seal is broken isn't the air is pushed out? Smoke and toxins do not get breathed in.

Well it’s good to see the Fire Department elect one of its own members instead of the Selectmen installing another random Building Inspector or something like that to the role of Fire Chief like they previously did.

Now, the big question remains whether or not this board will follow through with the will of the Fire Department and appoint the elected Chief….it was brought to light at the last BoS meeting that the Fire Department always holds their annual elections but there is zero consistency on the back end with the trivial act of the BoS confirming the election results. Hopefully this signals a beginning to the end of the corruption that plagued Nottingham in recent years.

Another thing worth noting, elected Chief Curry is in blatant violation of NFPA regulation by sporting a full beard.

This is a liability risk to the town for ignoring SCBA seal requirements.

National Fire Safety Standards and Protection are clear on this issue.

Everyone in the Fire Fighting community understands this. These are not new guidelines. It’s fire fighting 101.

Not the best look for a Department and town trying to navigate its way through the messy fall out of terminating it’s long time, well known and respected Chief.

The BoS need to address this violation before someone from the state level or worse is made aware and comes down on the town.

Not like Nottingham needs anymore negative attention.

I was a regular customer of Matt Curry's when he ran Curry Automotive. Perhaps my memory is wrong, but I only remember him as having a beard. If that's the case, then he had a beard when Jaye Vilchock was Chief.

Doug, it might be worth mentioning as well that the NFPA is a wonderful organization that conducts rigorous testing and develops excellent guidelines and recommendations, but they are not a regulating body and they don't "come down" on anyone and they do not make or enforce laws. As Shannon correctly points out, passing a fit test is what matters.

Yes- thank you for mentioning that, he has had it for YEARS. Initially just during hunting season and then one year it never went away.

Anyways as far as I know he passes his fit test without issue…..

It’s about the beard….

Curry is Chief.

He has a beard.

Stay focused.

Beards are great for Santa Claus just inappropriate for a Fire Chief because of safety concerns. I don’t know how or why that bothers you.

Not sure why it’s relevant but yeah let’s hope the fitness test is a non issue lol.

The Nottingham Fire Department doesn’t need anymore problems than it already has.

Congratulations on the election results.

Fit test, not fitness test- you know the test that meets the requirements of the NFPA and SCBA seal requirements. I would assume you would know what a fit test was because you cited those two requirements…..

My bad. Let’s hope he keeps passing! I figured handle bar mustaches are popular amongst Fire Fighters worldwide because of the safety standard’s around not being bearded, pretty sure the 2 go hand in hand. I’ve never noticed fire fighters with beards, let alone a Chief, it’s an observation that’s all. Again, congrats on the election results, let’s all hope the BoS follows through with the voters over at Nottingham FD. Hate to see any Fire Department go through what Nottingham was just put through by the BoS.

He has a beard in the picture you provided….

He has a beard right now.

Does he not?

This is a safety violation.

Fire standards are clear on this.

I don’t recall this issue raised in the investigation report, would’ve seemed like the appropriate time to address.

I’m simply raising the concern .

Let’s focus on the issue at hand please.

I am also a former customer of Curry Automotive.

Cite the violation, I looked for it in CFR 29 1910 and didn't see it

Why do you have to make fake accounts and troll the internet? Do you think all these fake accounts and constant rants are doing anything to help your case? Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this how you got yourself into this situation- by creating a hostile environment….if you feel so strongly about your opinion ( and think your right) then why not just post under your actual name? I’m posting under mine, it’s Shannon Curry….

You can keep hiding and continue to bashing people for doing what they feel is the right thing, given the circumstances while you act like a jack- a… well you know in a box…..

What I would like to know is whether the intention of the employees who complained about the hostile environment was to to get the Chief fired or whether it was to get the Town Administrator and BOS to intervene with the Chief to correct his behavior.

Ah, yes, glad you asked this question. I was wondering why this poster doesn't want to use their real name. Seems somehow inappropriate for someone who has a lot to say on a very local issue in a very small town, one in which they may or may not live, who knows? We don't know since they're hiding their identity. But that's how some people choose to roll these days. When they're anonymous it's easy to bait people, stir the pot, pontificate, etc.

Hostile environment?

Could you please be more specific?

Hello Shannon Curry, I’m not sure exactly who you think I am, but I can assure you whatever assumptions you have about my identity you’re definitely wrong. I think it’s great you choose to use your real name. Good for you! If memory serves me correctly anonymity and protecting identities was used in the case against the Vilchocks, was it not? I’m not looking to bash anyone, just stating facts, sorry that you feel that way. Opinions and feelings are irrelevant. Only truth and facts matter in this case so I will correct you, you are wrong. Happy new year!

How many times are you going to edit your poorly thought out response? I’ll engage in a discussion with you further, once you get enough courage to ditch your fake identity and step out from behind your box, Mr. Jack. Until then keep trolling- oh yeah Happy New Year to you too Mr. (Or Mrs.) Jack…

Attack the content and information in my comments not my identity. My identity couldn’t be more irrelevant and it makes you look petty picking on my editing skills as well.

I sense a level of hostility in your tone, but not sure why exactly?

Hopefully 2024 will be a better year for Nottingham, but from what I’ve heard/read about looming court cases, overblown budgets, and tax increases I’m not too optimistic.

We can debate the facts of the matter with the Fire Department etc but I’m not interested in silly little personal arguments.

Petty?!? No I was noting only facts- that you edited your post multiple times, making it seem that your comment was a knee jerk reaction and no well thought out…..in regards to identifying someone as petty— petty seems like an opinion or feelings which you already established as irrelevant…. Sensing someone’s tone again feels like your own opinion and feelings …. I was stating facts- the fact is that we can have a conversation like adults when you introduce yourself, you know like an adult.
